Abstract
The article is devoted to the organization of protection of the state border in the transbaikal sector of the USSR on the eve of the Great Patriotic war. The author analyzes the political situation in the transbaikal area boundaries, organization of the activities of the border guards in this period and the first military conflict with Japan.
