The paper reveals the problems of building up and balanced development of the energy system of the Far East, including the energy system of the Republic of the Sakha (Yakutia) as the one of the big regions of the Russian Federation.
The article reveals the potential possibilities of small and medium-sized businesses to develop some sectors of the economy (by the example of the Republic of Sakha Yakutia) as well as the abilities of the businesses to make prompt decisions under non-standard economic conditions of the northern territories. The role of small and medium-sized businesses as the subjects of the economy increases in the northern areas in connection with implementation of the republican target program «Development of business and tourism in the Sakha (Yakutia) Republic in 2009 – 2011».
