Street: risks and resources of influence on the daily space of the childhood

Abstract

The street is presented in the article as the open, extra institutional, public daily space of the childhood. Two main criteria of this space’s assessment are given as the safety and comfort. Comparison of the adjacent concepts – the street, the yard, the road – helps to allocate the risks and resources for children. Organization of the favorable street space for children is connected with the borders establishment, socially responsible adults’ presence, creation of the comfortable and developing environment. The adults have to teach children to safe behavior at the street. The street promotes formation of the child’s specific social skills: from the skills of interactions with the other children and adults to the skills of safe behavior at the roads. The "new" sociology of the childhood has opened one more important side of child at the street studying. It is the child’s designing of an urban environment.
